Student Development/College Life

Student Development Office

The Student Development Office serves as the focal point for El Camino College student life and leadership programs. The Student Development Office strives to create a supportive and relaxing environment where students can interact with one another outside of the classroom. The Student Development Office location includes Warrior Pantry, Inter-Club Council, student government offices (Associated Students Organization), Student Equity Advisory Council, and photo ID services. Through the Student Development Office, students may become involved in clubs and organizations, Associated Students Organization (ASO) and Inter-Club Council. Hours of operation vary; please call 310-660-3500 for information, or visit www.elcamino.edu/studentservices/activities/sdo.asp.

Associated Students Organization

The Associated Students Organization (ASO) is the officially recognized student group charged with representing the needs and interests of all El Camino College students. Officers are elected/ appointed each year to provide a voice for ECC students. Everyone who is registered at El Camino College is a member of the Associated Students. ASO sponsors programs and services to benefit the entire student body.

Student Senate

Each of the college’s academic divisions is represented on the Student Senate by two elected students. The senate is concerned with the total student body and acts as a point of communication between the academic divisions and students. The Student Development Office advises the membership to sponsor such activities as workshops, lectures, and social events. Overall leadership of the senate is provided by the ASO president and the ASO cabinet. The president, vice president, director of finance, director of academic affairs, director of student services, director of public relations, director of human resources, and director of external affairs are elected by the student body each spring.

Student Trustee

A student trustee is elected each spring to represent the students for one year on the Board of Trustees of the El Camino Community College District. The representative participates fully with the Board except in matters of personnel or pending litigation.

Inter-Club Council

The Inter-Club Council is comprised of representatives from campus clubs and sponsors activities such as homecoming and blood drives. There are a variety of clubs available for students to join, including honorary, service, cultural, performing arts, and special interest organizations. Information on forming a club or joining one is available in the Student Development Office.

Student Equity Advisory Council

The Student Equity Advisory Council (SEAC) is a student-led organization that leads efforts to educate and promote equity, diversity, and inclusion at El Camino College. The council is comprised of equity-related student clubs and all students who have a passion for social justice. For more information on SEAC, please email seac@elcamino.edu.

Warrior Pantry

The Warrior Pantry was established in 2017 to assist students with food insecurities. The pantry also offers toiletries, as well as providing guidance to valuable resources that are available to our students in need. During the COVID-19 pandemic, students may receive food and toiletries while abiding by social distancing requirements. Students can also have the option to walk or ride up with a bike to receive pantry services from parking lot B on the El Camino College Campus. The Warrior Pantry was founded through the leadership of the Student Equity Advisory Council, Associated Student Organization, and the Inter-Club Council, with support from the Student Development Office and the Student Equity Program. To receive services from the Warrior Pantry, a student needs to be enrolled and registered at ECC in a class with at least one (1) unit for the current semester. The registration form can be found on the Warrior Pantry webpage on the El Camino Community College website.
