The Certificate of Competency in English as a Second Language (ESL) is designed to give fundamental reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills to limited-English speaking students, preparing them for academic studies and enhanced job opportunities. Students are placed into the ESL sequence based on their English abilities and progress through the sequence based on individual need before transferring into credit courses or finding employment. Students who complete the certificate will be prepared to take credit ESL courses at the college.
