By completing the certificate requirements, students will learn how to perform intermediate to advanced repertoire on the organ, understand the functionalities of the instrument, understand the duties of a working organist, and acquire a historical perspective on the instrument in its various applications. The curriculum prepares students for entry-level employment as a church organist. Upon completion of the required courses, students will be able to prepare organ pieces for performance, choir accompaniment, and other musical functions of a church service. Students of this program will also learn how to conduct solo and ensemble singers from the organ. Certificate competencies will be assessed regularly by juried and public performances as well as weekly private lessons by the instructor.
