LING 1A - Linguistics 1A: Phonetics and Phonology

This is a general introduction to linguistics, the scientific study of human language. Emphasis is placed on an indepth study of the sound system of the world’s languages: phonetics and phonology. These subfields are areas of active research in their own right, and are also foundations for working in other areas of linguistics introduced in this course, such as sociolinguistics, dialectology, historical linguistics, applied linguistics, sign language studies, psycholinguistics, and language acquisition.
